Live from the Pacific Coast Pensioners Associations Conference! Dan and Steph have a conversations with Zack Pattin of ILWU 23 and Kyle Mcginn from the MUA about the future of the maritime youth movement.

We got a chance to sit down with CUPW Vancouver President Jennifer Savage to talk about the struggle, bargaining and the potential new deal.

This episode begins with speeches given on the picket line by David Black, Graeme Johnson, Irene Lazinger, Terry Engler and Rob Ashton. We then have a conversation with David Black, president of MoveUp and Janice Ford. We wrap up with returning presidents Rob Ashton (ILWU) and Graeme Johnston (BCFMWU).

This morning we went to show our support for the good people at MoveUp. We spoke with Ryan Hamer from MoveUP local 378, and Donna Forscutt and Allen Towers on Unifor 888, as we try to cast some light on a bit of a confusing situation with the BC Nurses Union.

On July 8 ILWU Local 502 hosted the first ever "Taking it to the Streets" 4 on 4 ball hockey tournament  in support of the Surrey Food Bank . Steph and Dan found some time on that day to talk with BCFMWU president Graeme Johnson and secretary treasurer Brian Lalli. We had a quick conversation about the trash talk leading up to the event as well as some history and news from the BCFMWU before we all had to get back to the games.

We went down to Tacoma for a "Passing the torch" education event put on by Local 23 Young Workers, and Pensioners committees. We then had a chance to sit down with Brian Skiffington, Zack Pattin, and Local 23 president Dean McGrath, and talk about the ILWU's 10 guiding principals....................This episode could really be called "Zack drops Knowledge bombs", but i don't think he would like that.

After a year of asking to come on the show we finally have time for recently retired ILWU Canada president Mark Gordienko. He joins us to talk about his tenure as president and trustee and shares some stories as a rank and file member. Thank you for your lessons, your insight and your 44 years of service to the ILWU, Mark!

Dan and Mike crash the ILWU 502 pensioners banquet but none of the old timers wanted to talk to us...... so we settled for ILWU Canada President Rob Ashton, and 1VP Shawn Nolan.

Mike heads all the way to Stewart B.C. to talk with ILWU Local 519 workers about the lies they were told, and false promises made. The community was promised family supporting jobs that would stay in their small community. Thats not what happened..... 

Finally, Troy Cook and Alex Hanson from the USW, Steel Megaphone Podcast join us. We sit down and talk about how we are using podcasting as a tool for labour to communicate and touch on some international labour issues. 

ILWU Canada Young Worker Committee member Stephanie Dobler takes the helm and sits down with ILWU 2nd VP Steve Nasty, Brian Skiffington of ILWU 23 in Tacoma, and Danielle Burgess also of the ILWU Canada Young workers committee. The group discussed the youth movement in the ILWU and their time at the ILWU Canada Convention.

We headed down to the Grant’s Law Sit-in put on by the BCFED Young Workers Committee, to commemorate the tragic death of Grant DePatie in 2005, who was killed when attempting to stop the theft of $12.30 in gas at an Esso station in Maple Ridge. Since Grant’s death, the Liberal government broke their promise to improve safety for late night workers. We were joined by Carlos Carvalho, Sussanne Skidmore, and Caitlin Davidson King.

Part 2 Brian Skiffington and Zack Pattin from ILWU 23 Tacoma help us out  at the Activate Now! Northwest TPP Summit, a collection of activists form all of the the Pacific Northwest west sharing strategies to fight the TPP. We start with Lynne Dodson secretary treasurer of Washington State Labor Council and Gillian Lacascio Director of the Washington Fair Trade Coalition. Then Zack hijacks the show with a group of activists Michelle Heckler, Ronna Loerch, Peggy Bruton and Joanna Schoettler.

After just missing each other in Australia we finally got a chance to take with Assistant National Secretary of the MUA Warren Smith. Then returning to the the show to update us on things in New Zealand is "Big" Joe Fleetwood from the Maritime Union of New Zealand.

Bobby Olvera Jr president of local 13 joins us to offer his insight on automation and union structure in California. Then ILWU International Vice President Ray Familathe joins us to talk about the contract battles he's dealt with during his time with the ILWU.

First we talk with GWU President Gerry Gault about the grain handlers coming home to the ILWU to become local 333. Then we speak with ILWU 400 VP Jason Woods about free trade and the struggles in the tugboat industry.

We all made it home and took a week to process everything. Dan, Steph, Dani and Tim all sit down and discuss our experience at the Maritime Union of Australia's conference.

Steph digs up a new guest, sort of, she got Steve Todd of RMT to return to the show. Dean Summers must of had fun cause he crashed the party and sat in as well. After updating us on all things RMT Steve refers us to Mick Cash RMT General Secretary to give us a update on the situation in London and the strikes on the Tubes. We finish this one with Dean McGrath ILWU 23 and Adrian Adrian Evans from WA Branch, taking about the sister relationship between each parties.

Will Tracy gives Dan a update on the struggles with Chevron and MUA fighting for workers in oil and gas. Then we are joined by two MUA vets, Gary Smith and Fred Krausert. We finish this one with Michael Cross Branch Committee offshore rep in NSW branch.

We were lucky to get a few minutes with Zac Kinzett and Warren Hopkins. Two of the five aussie seafarers chased off their ship and robbed of there jobs and livelihoods, only to be replaced by $2 a day foreign labour.
